Other Key Questions
The venue tab also explores other questions about the risk of a venue, such as:
Is this venue litigious?
The relevant data points to answer questions about the litigiousness of a county include the total number of cases filed, the cases filed per 100K to determine how litigious the population is relative to the population size, the litigiousness of certain case types in particular (motor vehicle, product liability, medical malpractice, etc.). The filing trends section allows the user to visualize the trend of the filing numbers over time.
How often are cases in this venue resolved by trial?
The previous section focused on the question of how many cases are filed in a county. This section focuses on, of those filed cases, how many of them proceeded to trial? The trial rate, including how it compares to the national average, the state average, and the trend of the trial rate over time, allows the user to determine how often cases in a venue are resolved by trial.
Does this venue often have big verdicts?
The data in this section comes from the Sigmasight verdict database. The data on the total amount of the verdict allows a user to see whether the data shows a pattern of large verdicts. The data is displayed in bands, ranging up to "nuclear" verdicts, or verdicts that exceed $10 million.
How do the award damages in this venue compare to the model?
Just because a verdict is large, doesn't necessarily indicate that the amount awarded was excessive. The SigmaSight non-economic model analyzes how the amount awarded compares to other cases with similar characteristics to analyze the impact the venue has on the case.
What is the case resolution cycle time?
What are the demographics of this venue?
This section includes a variety of of economic indicators for the county of your case, relative to the national average. Each metric related to political lean, age, education, and economic factors are displayed as an orange bar if the data for this county is above the national average, or pink if the metric is below the national average. For a specific definition of each term, please refer to the Analyzer dictionary.
